Thiruvathirai Kali | Thiruvadhirai Kali

Thiruvathirai Kali is a sweet recipe prepared with raw rice & jaggery and served as prasadam during Thiruvathirai viratham.

Thiruvathirai is an auspicious day especially celebrated for Lord Shiva. Fasting is held on that full day and later in the evening when moon arises we break the fast after offering to god. The next day is for the darshan of lord Natrajar(dancing form of Lord Shiva) called as “Arudhra darisanam”. Only after the darshan, the viradham gets fulfilled. After the long full day fast to give instant energy this Thiruvadhirai Kali or adai is first taken. As this is made of rice and jaggery, we get carbs as well as sugar immediately.

Like thiruvadhirai Kali some make thiruvathirai adai, which is also an equally important dish. According to me, this Thiruvadhirai Kali is easier than adai.

In addition to this special sweet, thiruvathirai kulambu or ezhu Kari kootu or kulambu is also made, in which minimum seven to maximum 13 kinds of vegetables used.
